What you should wear to a job interview depends on the role you are interviewing for, but at the very least you should:
- Be the best-dressed person in the room.
- Dress like someone who looks like they belong in that role for that company, and is a leader in both respects.
- Be very keen on making a good first impression.
It is a good idea to dress in clothes you know you feel comfortable wearing. You want to both look and feel "the part" during the interview, and being comfortable goes a long way in helping you be the natural you. But you also want to feel confident and sharp, so choose the clothes that help you wear it well, literally and figuratively. And remember, a key message you are trying to communicate by your dress is that you are one of them. If in doubt, ask the recruiter what sort of dress is expected for the interview. It is better to be clear beforehand rather than spend any energy stressing over it when preparing for your interview or risking looking bad when you meet the interviewers. As the saying goes, there is never a bad time to look good or a good time to look bad.
