The main tips for writing a great resume are to spend less time on the sparkle and more time on the substance. Avoid elaborate layouts and graphics and tailor your resume to the job you want. Read each job posting and ask yourself if your resume reflects someone who would excel at that job.
After you start with a great resume, it's time for some networking. Reach out to everyone in your circle and let them know you're on the hunt. You can also work in reverse by choosing the company you want to work for and scouring your contacts from grade school to now for anyone with even the slightest connection to the company. Having a friend put in a good work for you goes a long way toward getting an interview.
