To convince an employer that you are the perfect candidate for the job, focus on the top skills and talents you have developed during your career, or if you're just starting out, play up what you learned through education and training, as well as the soft skills you have honed both in and out of the classroom. Some soft skills employers look for include emotional intelligence, sound judgement, patience and leadership.
But it's not enough just to mention your skills. You have to show employers exactly how you can use them to ensure the safety of the child or children in your care, and provide them with a nurturing environment to help them develop emotionally, physically and mentally. So for example, you might write a sentence like: "My training as a nursery school teacher, combined with five years of experience as a nanny to three active young children, has uniquely prepared me for this position," and then follow it with specific skills you gained from those experiences. Add a quantifiable accomplishment or two to showcase your most unique qualities – it will help ensure stand out from the competition.
