Don’t choose a job that’s unrelated to the target position. Pick a similar job and highlight the transferrable skills.
I really couldn’t imagine myself doing anything other than sales. I’ve been in it for a long time and, more importantly, I really feel like it’s the perfect job for my skill sets. But if I had to choose something, I might give real estate a shot. I’m good at closing deals and talking to people, so I think I could be a successful real estate agent.
Don’t give in. Show you’re committed to your career choice by choosing a job that’s currently above your experience level.
There really isn’t any other job out there that I want. I love being a restaurant manager and couldn’t envision myself ever leaving for a different job. I get to work with food, manage business goals, and stay on my feet all the time—it’s perfect for me. One day, I’d like to run my own restaurant, so that’s the only other position I could picture myself in.
