I started my educational teaching career 14 years after graduating from Richlands High school. During those years, I focused my attention on being a full time wife and mother for my two sons. In 1993, I returned to college and graduated from SVCC with an associated degree in elementary education. I received my bachelor's degree in 1997 from Bluefield College. During this time I was also a member of the first group of Americorp. In 2003, I returned to college to receive my Master's degree in reading from Emory and Henry in 2005. During my teaching career I have worked with after-school, summer school and tutored students with individually educational needs.
Improved students' reading levels through guided reading groups and small group reading. Assisting in school-wide testing. ( SOL's and maps). Working with fourth and Fifth Grade teachers in the classroom to improve Math skills of students. Working on School-wide Title committee.
Created lesson plans in accordance with state curriculum and school-wide curriculum standards. During my 2010-2011, I had to take Family Leave to care for my mother with ovation cancer.
Employed a broad range of instructional techniques to retain student interest and maximize learning. Team taught with a with a colleague in a classroom with 38 students in 2007-2008. In 2009, I taught 3 students with special IEP's within the regular classroom of students.
Collaborated with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning and student engagement. Worked with 3 other teachers, my focus was on Virginia History. As a group, we achieved a high success rate on Virginia's SOL testing. Worked in an after school program and taught summer school.
Used children's literature to teach and reinforce reading, writing, grammar and phonics. Used a diversity of teaching skills to foster students success.

Tutored children individually and in small groups to help them with difficult subjects.
