I serve as a multi-disciplinary expert in the Office of Human Resources and perform a wide range of duties:

  • As a Recruiter, I work with Program Managers at all levels of the organization including DGS specific programs and DGS Client Agencies to plan and create a recruitment strategy for their vacancies. At this level, I am required to provide the highest level of customer service while representing DGS, and more specifically the Recruitment Unit as some of the clients I work with are Chiefs and Deputy directors as well.
  • I currently oversee, develop, and execute individualized departmental recruitment plans by analyzing data on department vacancies and high turnover rates among classifications.
  • I prepare comprehensive reports with data statistics and analytics gathered in my recruitment efforts and make recommendations to Program Managers as well as my Supervisor.
  • I conduct targeted advertising and outreach campaigns to potential candidate groups by conducting research, developing relationships with Universities/colleges/trade and technical schools/professional organizations/other state agencies/and community programs by attending state-wide Career Fairs.
  • I develop content for creative marketing advertisements as well as create graphics and flyers for the vacant positions and present/make recommendations to Executive Management on progress and statistics for the most difficult to fill vacancies and classifications in order to attract the best and brightest talent.
  • I maintain a working knowledge of all DGS classifications, job specifications, pay scales, exams, minimum qualifications, and necessary licensure/certifications required.
  • I maintain various social media platforms and contracts required for recruitment purposed (Indeed, LinkedIn) and communicate and screen prospective candidates. I gather analytical data on recruitment strategies to track sourcing.

Equal Employment Opportunity Representative for Department of General Services Interview Panel Compositions:

  • I develop, recommend, train, and implement best practices to DGS managers in regard to retaining and promoting internal employees by assisting DGS managers with the hiring process as well as aiding DGS employees with their Career Development through Recruitment Unit services.
  • I participate as a HR representative on the interview panel compositions for DGS interviews to ensure all interviews are being conducted fairly and equitably.
  • As the HR expert, I am also attending interviews to answer and assist any hiring managers or panel members with questions regarding HR best practices during the interviews.
  • I work with DGS' Equal Employment Opportunity Office on critical projects related to diversity and Upward Mobility within the DGS hiring process.

Upward Mobility Program Manager and Coordinator:

  • In partnership with my Supervisor, I am the co-creator and content writer of the revamped, refined, official state-mandated Upward Mobility Program that DGS staff in low-paying eligible classifications can qualify for.
  • I am responsible for program tracking, completing progress reports on program status, communicating and taking part in presenting to DGS programs for marketing said program, refining program criteria and metrics based on feedback from Executive Management, researching budgetary restrictions, overseeing financial assistance given to eligible staff, and program implementation.
  • I am responsible for reviewing and approving Upward Mobility applications based on selection criteria, tracking Upward Mobility applicants and their progress throughout the program, and providing individualized assistance via Career Development services. This may include: directing the staff member to appropriate college courses to meet minimum qualifications for a promotional class, providing suggestions to revise their resume, refining their state application or Statement of Qualifications, etc.
  • In partnership with my Supervisor, we have created operating manuals (Handbook Guides) for both participants and Supervisors providing critical information about the UM Program.

Career Counseling:

  • I provide career counseling and career development services for all levels of the DGS organization based on the staff's needs.
  • I partner with DGS University to be able to direct staff to appropriate training opportunities.

Creation and Implementation of DGS-wide HR Policies and Procedures:

  • I am responsible for creating a multitude of Standard Operating Procedures for the Recruitment Unit, Hiring Managers, and DGS staff.
