Performed MSSQL functions as a consultant for the USDA that included the installation, configuration and maintenance associated with the MSSQL 2000, 2005 and 2008 environments present in the web farm. Created and provided feedback on proposed system changes. Reviewed developer scripts prior to system implementation and provided feedback on any major impacts that where caused by them. Established various maintenance plans to monitor system performance and to automate backups. Worked lightly within a clustered system, providing troubleshooting and general maintenance as well as a few minor installations as well as providing support for various other high availability options, from log shipping, and a few mirrored databases. Facilitated the transitions from MSSQL 2000 to 2005 and at a later date transitioned to MSSQL2008, by troubleshooting issues that arose as well as bringing existing databases online in the new environment. Most migrations were handled in a side by side installation a few were direct upgrades. Installed a SQL 2005 cluster utilizing a 2 node set up under VMWare, and then later transitioned it to a MSSQL mirror after finding some compatibility issues with clustered environments and VMWare. Migrated in house applications from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008. Regularly support software development, from requests for testing and development databases to pushing scripts created by development teams. Installed the hosting monitor application on thirty one instances of MSSQL 2000 and 2005 which provides feedback to the database administrator on the overall health and integrity of the instance and server. Transitioned fifteen plus databases from MSSQL 2000 to 2005 by doing a side by side upgrade so that the database could be tested on the new system without interfering with the existing databases until it was verified there where not software conflicts. Performed midrange client support by facilitating any database or instance changes needed to meet the requirements of the customer in a live environment. Restored a system post a patching failure that left the system in a state of inoperability due to high CPU taxing. Corrected this by installing a parallel instance of SQL so that the development team could still test on the fully patched version without affecting the performance of the primary system. Installed SQL 2005 into a VMware cluster and managed the performance under the virtual environment. Migrated 99% of the data center from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005, and 15% from SQL 2000/2005 to SQL 2008 Built and maintained SQL environments on VMWare ESX-I for quick turnaround clients. Created and maintained SQL mirror solutions for internal BMC Remedy environments.
Installed, configured and maintained MSSQL based servers in several system configurations, from Windows server 2000, to 2003 with a back bone built in SQL 2000 and, or 2005. Found ingenious ways to correct several table specific issues while building a more optimized data structure for communications within the database flow. Built system queries to find corrupted tables and attempted to restore the data from torn pages. Provided additional system integrity by establishing back up procedures using Symantecās VERITAS and Backup Exec produces, additionally, when required, configured the site for differential backups based on the required up time of the site. Installed and maintained server and client hardware through maintenance action agreements with the client. Supplied phone based support when needed to correct client issues. Built several new client networks from the ground up starting with server construction all the way through to site implementation. Maintained an almost 100% server up time for 253 clients throughout the United States through various monitoring systems and fail safes: VERITAS, Database Mirroring and Secondary backups. Created and maintained an engineering database used to track the issue and reception of parts from customers and technicians. Repaired 2 databases that were not properly truncating their log files by changing the maintenance action plans, ultimately saving 10 years of medical research and preventing a full system failure.
Directed a twenty-member team in developing the most efficient database system for $25 million in tools and equipment that directly maintained the B-2 Stealth Bomber. Provided 24 hour on call support for the site as well as scheduled a 7 day a week rotation of work required on the database. Monitored all traffic to and from the network, to ensure that all data is maintained, and stored for future use. Provided a liaison service between new users when questions arose about the database and any issues that were going on within the system. Trained staff on new network features and SQL procedures to build a better understanding of system use and integrity. Monitored and helped optimize databases in their newly implemented tool allocation systems. Provided feedback to the development team on ways to improve the data structure and even areas to look at overhauling. Achieved 99.3% average database up time. Identified and corrected internal logic errors which saved $1.1 million and brought about faster, more reliable system. Played an integral role in creating and establishing one of the first fully functional SQL TAS databases in the Air Force.
