Experience
Mentor, 08/2010 - 05/2016
Keystone Human Services Danville, PA, As a big sister, I was paired with young girls facing adversity and visited them once a week at a Title I elementary school. During this time, I served as a one-on-one mentor to nurture, encourage, and help them discover their ability to succeed and thrive in life.
Shadow, 05/2012 - 06/2012
University Of Tennessee Medical Center City, STATE, Over the span of two months I shadowed an anesthesiologist at University of Tennessee Medical Center. I went into several surgeries including an appendectomy, knee replacement and a caesarean section with Dr. Mobley. This was my first exposure to shadowing a healthcare provider.
Medical Scirbe, 09/2013 - 06/2015
PhysAssist Scribe City, STATE, As a medical scribe I recorded patient data and medical records for various ER physicians. I worked at 5 hospitals in rural and urban settings. Shifts correlated with the emergency doctors, so that every doctor had a scribe on shift. I coded disease and injury diagnoses, along with procedures in an inpatient setting. I also charted an extensive history, description of present illnesses, review of systems, lab values, radiology readings, and always included a disposition and diagnosis as dictated by the physician.
Kaplan Suture Clinic, 03/2015 - 03/2015
Kaplan City, STATE, During this clinic I learned the basics of administering sutures from a first year medical student. During this time I got to practice on a pig's foot and learned how to perform a simple and running suture. The clinic was put together by the Pre-Med Society at the University of Tennessee.
Medical Scribe-Trainer, 07/2015 - 06/2016
PhysAssist Scribes, Inc. City, STATE, Being a trainer for PhysAssist took my charting to the next level. I was expected to teach new scribes the basics of medical charting while making sure to fulfill all my normal duties as a scribe and increase productivity and efficiency.
Biology Tutor, 09/2016 - 10/2016
Lincoln Memorial University City, STATE, As a biology tutor I was expected to attend an entry level biology class three times a week. After attending class I led review sessions and reviewed the high yield topics that I took notes on during class. I also made worksheets and lead review sessions before the exams.
Academic Tutor/Mentor, 07/2017 -
MathDocs City, STATE, Volunteering for Math Docs includes going to an afterschool program and tutoring middle school students in math or reading. As I tutor I had to learn to adapt to each student's needs and adjust my teaching to fit their learning style.
General Volunteer, -
Remote Area Medical City, STATE, I have worked two Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinics. These clinics give patients access to free health care. As a volunteer I helped with working in the vision clinic, taking medical histories, directing patient flow and passing out snacks. Working the clinic with a smile and a few jokes seemed to lighten the mood for these patients.
