  • Assisted in establishing a materials group within a "Greenfield" operation at the new Flextronics Buffalo Grove location. Initiated and helped to bring live a new MRP system (Baan V), as well as managing and building a new supplier base that was non existent. Sourced and created over 100 NEW suppliers both direct and indirect, along with gathering multiple quotes while negotiating pricing, establishing lead times, and overall securing a supply chain for the growing business unit.
  • Learned and utilized many applications available within Flextronics serving many critical functions. This included a vendor management tool for setting up new suppliers, and indirect procurement tool for generating shopping carts which would route through and approval loop and then re-generate as a PO in ERP, an AP tool which routed all "blocked" invoices to the buyer for resolution, as well as a receiving challenge tool which communicated any deliveries that either came in early, late, or were missing critical information on the paperwork such as a PO, part #, etc...
  • Consulted global procurement directors in charge of both direct and indirect spend within Flextronics in terms of globally approved "strategic" suppliers, any existing contracts and pricing that may be in place with them already. Assisted them in "benchmarking" local suppliers or local strategic supplier business units in order to secure a competitive bidding process both globally and locally.
  • Took part in a 2 week training program in Guadalajara Mexico covering all components of the ERP/MRP process within Baan V along with relevant procedures. At the same time performed on-site duties remotely.
  • Managed the new part setup process for all "purchased" components part of a newly created BOM. In all was directly involved in helping to release a few hundred sku's into the live system ready for procurement within MRP.
  • Worked closely with the maintenance, IT, operations, and quality group in implementing all facility related projects such as safety, electricity, water, air, plumbing, repairs, landscaping, snow plowing, fiber optic cabling, wiring of equipment, pest control, cleaning, security, and uniform services . Successfully sourced and awarded based on a minimum of three quotes a landscaping, snow plowing, pest control, safety, and cleaning service.
  • Worked closely with the R&D/Engineering, project management, and finance groups in establishing new components, finding suppliers, approving costs contained within cost models, as well as establishing "standard" costs vs. purchased costs. The buyer made sure to identify and record any unfavorable purchased price variance in case the standard cost had to be adjusted.
  • Managed purchasing for two sites. The main 800 site operation consisted of assembly, injection molding, warehousing, shipping and receiving. The external 700 site operation consisted of a tool shop which assisted in tool repairs as well as building and selling brand new tools. At some point spent two weeks FULLY assisting the 700 operation as the buyer for that site was out ill. Also managed to consolidated services such as cleaning, landscaping, snow plowing, uniforms, and safety for both sites.
  • Since day one was fully responsible for both indirect and direct procurement of all MRO, raw material, packaging, and other misc supplies. For a few months in the beginning stages of the operation there was no on-site manager for the materials. The buyer managed his time and resources all on his own.
  • Managed external resources on multiple occasions. During the first couple months of the operation, there was no ERP system in place. External resources from other Flextronics sites had to be managed on a daily basis in order to issue hard copy PO to send suppliers. Additional resources that came on site from other locations also had to be managed during the course of their stay to accomplish all open action items.
  • Assisted in hiring and training an indirect buyer to assist the operation. The new buyer was capable to work on their own after the first week of training.
  • Managed asset transfers, CAPITAL expenditures, and customer owned equipment. Overall oversaw the procurement, delivery, and commissioning of over 40 injection molding machines along with axillary equipment, both company and customer owned.
  • Managed outsourcing of production. Assisted in locating a local "filler" to aid in the production process while equipment has been purchased and in the process of being built. This consisted of sending PO's for each weeks production schedule, managing internal as well as external inventory of raw material, packaging supplies, as well as the logistics of sending material to and finished product from the subcontractor.
  • Created and managed a non-goods receipt process within the ERP system. Since Baan V was lacking an NGR functionality to close non-tangible service related PO at the time of creation, a template was created to officially approve services that were completed and needed to be received or closed by the receiving department.

  • Oversee price trends of high spend items in order to provide management with cost forecasts and material availability by internal review of market index reports along with external review of supplier feedback. Achieved over $114,000 in annual savings by invoicing consignment inventory early based on market data.
