I Have worked for Helix Water District as a Dockhand at their Lake Jennings location for the last three years. Coinciding with maintenance, care of the dock and the recreational parks facilities, customer service is my main job. I help enforce the rules and regulations of the lake by letting customers know what those rules are and by making sure that the customers follow those rules throughout their visit ensuring that all customers have a safe and exceptional day at the lake.

The responsibilities that i have while working at the lake as a Dockhand are as follows: maintaining the boat dock by keeping the boat dock clean and clear of anything that could become a tripping hazard for the customers and scrubbing any debris off of the dock. Making sure that motors on the boats are started and warmed up at the beginning of the shift ensuring that the customers receive a well working boat for the day. Check all fuel lines on each boat as well as making sure that the fuel tanks are filled to their proper levels before a boat is rented out. Check all anchor ropes for hooks and removing them to prevent customers from getting their hands snagged or cut when dropping or pulling up the anchors. Making sure that the anchor ropes are tied to the boat well enough so it doesn't come off. Checking to see if each boat has two readily available oars. Sweep and mop and scrub all debris out of the boats when it is returned for the day so it is ready to be rented out again the next day.
Customer service is also a huge responsibility that is required. Greeting each and every customer. Asking if they would like any assistance with anything maybe carrying their gear to or from their boat, helping them launch their own boat or just answer any questions that they might have. Also it is the Dockhand's responsibility to make sure the customers have the correct permits depending on if they are just renting a boat for the fun of the boat ride or partaking in some fishing that day. In every boat there needs to be a life jacket and seat cushion for all passengers. Each boat can only hold a maximum of five people regardless of size or age. Children 10 and younger are required to wear the life jackets at all times when in the boat. Also, if at any time the customer experiences any problems with one of our rental boats the Dockhand must go out to the customer to assist with the issue. If there is nothing that can be done to get them back on their way the Dockhand must tow them back to the dock and exchange their boat for another one. The Dockhand must do their absolute best in customer service to make them feel welcome and make them want to return again. It is the Dockhand's responsibility for making sure these regulations are followed.
Along with the training i received from the current Dockhand's when i was first hired, I have also trained multiple Dockhand's.
While working for Helix Water District i have also delivered 48 hour non-payment door hanger notices. These notices are delivered to individual homes ranging between 30- 120 in a given day.
