The hospitality industry is one of the few industries that it is quickly recovering after the economic downturn. From cooking to customer service, there is something for everyone in the sector.

The Scott Community College recently announced that it has opened a brand new, $2.3 million Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Center, according to the Quad City Times.

While the school has offered a culinary arts program since 1991 and a hospitality program for almost a year and a half, the institution never had a place for students to work in.
“The lab work was all done through the courtesy of the restaurants and hotels stepping up and saying you can use our kitchen or our facilities,” Brad Scott, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Department chairman, told the news source. “We’ve grown so much that the sites we were using were just overflowing with students and really causing a safety problem in some of these places.”

The new building gives students the opportunity to practice their new skills in a brand new kitchen, dining room and even a hotel room and lobby featuring a modern reservation system.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the hospitality industry is expected to increase by at least 11% through 2018.
