Cruise ship careers offer world travel, spectacular views and new experiences - as well as that all-important pay check.

Writing on Best Syndication, Gordon Banks said working aboard luxury cruise liners requires many of the skills associated with hospitality, as the ships are basically huge floating hotels.

He added that in the last five years, careers in the cruise industry have developed quickly as demand for new ships and crews has almost doubled.

There are many roles involved in the successful operation of a cruise vessel. In addition to ship's officers and security personnel, most ships have divisions such as hotel operations, food and beverage service and housekeeping.

Some also offer employment in onboard beauty salons or casinos, Mr Banks said.

Nearly all cruise lines have an entertainment division, he added, which could cover everything from performer's roles to light and sound operations and public relations.

Furthermore, according to Hospitalityresourcenetwork.com, the skills learnt in hospitality settings such as cruise ships and hotels can help graduates to land jobs in what is a truly global industry.
