Some call her a genius, while others simply enjoyed her show, but Julia Child is certainly one of the more famous faces in the culinary world. She learned how to cook at the world-renowned Cordon Bleu school while in France and hosted her own show, The French Chef, proving that becoming a chef was a realistic and lucrative career.

Child inspired many people to enter culinary school and now her life and work are part of the new film, Julie and Julie, starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.

Streep plays the feisty cook who, according to Chef Alice Waters, was able to "make food an art" thanks to "her sense of humor, her joie de vivre about cooking [and] her interest in gastronomy," the Associated Press reveals.

According to the Bureau of Labor statistics, the outlook for those hoping to become a chef or cook is promising. Job growth in this area is predicted to rise by 11 % until 2016.

Furthermore, two-thirds of those employed in the culinary industry worked in restaurants or other food service and drinking places in 2006.
