As the job market is showing signs of improvement, it is becoming as crucial as ever to ensure that job hopefuls have a good resume to attract the attention of potential employers. After April's unemployment figures showed that 805,000 more Americans were going back to the job hunt, it becomes important that career seekers have a resume that will stand out from the rest. Employers look at a resume for an average of 10 seconds, so length is important, according to Forbes. Some career experts believe that if the worker has less than 10 years experience, they should keep their resume down to one page. Win Sheffield, a career coach, told the news provider that it's important that the resume provides bullet points and the job applicant should elaborate on their skills during the interview. "An employer hires you to solve his problems," Sheffield said. "The single best indicator that you're right for the job is an example of where you've solved other people's problems." According to the Associated Press, there currently are 5.5 unemployed Americans for each job opening. |
