The weakened economy coupled with a rising unemployment rate has swelled the job seeking market, giving employers a bigger pool to choose from and workers more people to compete with. In an effort to stand out in a crowd of many, some of the unemployed have used resume writing services to polish their resume in a way that makes them attractive to certain companies. However some career experts are warning employment hunters to not overly polish their experience so that the truth is completely overshadowed. Lily Garcia, who has given advice on employment law and human resources to companies for more than a decade, recently wrote in the Washington Post that she sees nothing wrong with people successfully marketing themselves on their resumes. However, in terms of using a recruiter or resume service, Garcia suggested people have the skills to produce a "smashing resume" by themselves. She added that people should ensure their resume has "compelling details" about the results they were able to produce for past employers and to quantify said accomplishment "with specific numerical data." Finally, it's important to tailor a resume to a job because some positions may require specific skills. |
