In a lackluster job market, recruiters and human resource managers are flooded with hundreds of resumes and cover letters. While continuing an education and a good employment history will catch a recruiter's eye, making sure that your resume is flawless will push applicants to the forward of the resume pile.

Michael Stevens, who works at Express Employment Professionals, said to WNDV-TV that everything on a resume is important - however, being able to put everything important on your resume is the difficult thing. Spelling and grammar are often over looked, but is something very important to consider when trying to get a resume into the hands of the recruiter.

"As an employer myself, I spend probably a minute max screening a resume. The most important part is right there in the middle of the resume, that's where our eyes are naturally drawn, that's the place to put the skills you would have," said Steven's according to WNDV-TV, "You never want to say I was just a 'fill in the blank'."

The Bureau of Labor statistics recommends keeping a resume short, no longer than one page, and using keywords to describe past jobs.
