The latest high tech job trends report found a growing number of openings for workers with digital media experience in their resume in Boston and New York City. According to the Internet and Digital Media Jobs Index, nearly 350 digital media companies in Boston and New York employ approximately 30,000 workers, with New York home to the largest number of newer businesses that have opened in the past 5 years. While hiring trends in Boston will continue to be favorable, the report found that the internet and digital media workforce will likely grow at a faster rate in New York due to more favorable venture capital investment trends. "Silicon Valley is synonymous with venture capital, yet the East Coast has also attracted significant venture capital dollars, especially in the explosive digital media sector. Boston and New York have exceptional talent pools that are growing" added John Barrett, a managing director of digital media at Cook Associates. Emerging companies in both cities include Gilt Groupe, Etsy, Rue La La and Hubspot. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job opportunities for computer system design and related services are expected to increase by 45% through 2018. |
