It appears as if those with health care education or hospitality experience on their resumes will find work in upstate New York. Recent employment figures for the region found that in the Utica-Rome area, other than government jobs, health care and hospitality top the list of the most jobs added last year. The Utica Observer-Dispatch reports that job trends show major industries such as health care, manufacturing and hospitality are beginning to see signs of economic recovery, with more jobs projected this year. Dave Mathis, director of Oneida County Workforce Development, told the news agency that in the health care field, hospitals, nursing homes, dental and surgical care have been some of the larger employers in the area over the past few years. He said the region is also experiencing a hospitality and entertainment renaissance of sorts. "There’s an explosion in new hotels that have gone up over the last couple years,” Mathis added. “In general, because of the Adirondacks, we’re kind of like the gateway." According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, professionals with an advanced degree on their resume can earn $1,000 more per week than those with some or no college education. |
