In today's competitive job market, it may not be enough for those looking to advance in the healthcare field to have one speciality degree on their resumes. With that in mind, the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) in Texas has launched a new dual-degree program in nursing and business administration.

The school said the combination of a master of business administration (MBA) and a master of science in nursing (MSN) will offer students a faster track for completing the 2 degrees at the same time.

Farhang Niroomand, dead of the UHV school of business administration said the program will provide aspiring medical professionals with solid training in health care and management.

"Today's nurses are asked to assume a large part of duties that had previously been assigned only to financial managers," Niroomand added. "This dual degree will make sure that our graduates, in addition to having the best nursing skills, are equipped to handle business matters. It will benefit both the nurses and the health care facility where they are employed."

The new program will begin next January.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for medical and health services managers are expected to grow by 16% through 2018.
