As the economy starts to recover, jobs in the health care industry are coming back strong. Nursing, in particular, is quickly becoming one of the most demanded occupations throughout the country. Since the opening of the new PACCAR Medical Education Center at Adena Medical Center two years ago, the number of students who have enrolled in the Wright State University's nursing degree program has doubled, according to The Chillicothe Gazette. Adena and the university launched the bachelor of science in nursing program shortly after opening the medical center, with the intention of providing the medical center with a constant stream of registered nurses. The first graduated class, according to the news source, will enter the job market in November. Many of them will find jobs at Adena, while others will find jobs in other parts of Ohio. For those looking to pursue a career in nursing, now may be the best time. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing says that the current nursing shortage is expected to intensify as Baby Boomers start to age and grow more dependent on health care. An estimated 1.4 million registered nurses will be needed this year along, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. |
