Healthcare jobs continue to show remarkable resiliency in the current recession, in Florida and elsewhere.

A recent report on Tampa Bay Online notes that in Florida, six of the twenty fastest growing jobs are in the healthcare industry, with pharmacy technicians, physician assistants and medical assistants among those most in demand.

Other kinds of healthcare professionals said to be in demand were more advanced positions like nurse practitioners and physician assistants, while physical therapists also made a list of rapidly growing healthcare positions.

"What's good about these medical occupations is that they are strong everywhere, in every city, in and out of Florida," Rust said. "Health care workers can be very mobile," the report quoted state economist Rebecca Rust as saying.

The demand for healthcare professionals in Florida is part of a nationwide trend where demand has continued to grow steadily. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has cited a number of healthcare fields, including nursing and medical assisting, as some of the fastest-growing fields in the industry right now.
