Nursing is one of the more popular areas of study in the country today. Several schools have reported needing to expand their healthcare programs in hopes of being able to accommodate the large amount of interest. Depending on the level of nursing, different levels of education will suffice.

As a result of the baby boomers getting older, America is in need of more nurses to assist in their care, according to CNNMoney.com. While there is a surge of interest in the field, the large number of nurses leaving due to retirement further exacerbates the staffing shortage.

"In a few short years, just under four out of 10 nurses will be over the age of 50," Peter Buerhaus, workforce analyst at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, told the news provider. "They'll be retiring out in a decade. And we're not replacing these nurses even as the demand for them will be growing."

The industry shows no signs of slowing down. There is expected to be a 22% rise in nursing employment by 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19529435-ADNFCR
