One of the more lucrative careers in the health care industry is pharmacy. Those in the profession tend to have an extensive medical knowledge that can provide some of the country's higher salaries. Additionally, pharmacists may act as a second opinion to a doctor's prescriptions, providing patients with the best care possible.

A new study indicates that when pharmacists have direct control over a patient's diabetic needs, the care can generally be cheaper and more efficient, according to ScienceDaily.com. Researchers believe this trend could be due to a pharmacists' extensive knowledge of medication, used to properly prescribe medication.

Recognition of this tendency could lead to fewer trials with various medications, a possible result of doctors testing out what works on patients, leading to a more cost-effective treatment.

"Pharmacists can help achieve better outcomes if given the chance," wrote the study's authors.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the lowest annual wages for pharmacists are $77,390, with the average being $106,410 a year.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19541412-ADNFCR
