Pursuing your dream career can be a tough step for many people, especially in an economy that is slowly recovering from a drastic recession. However, one senator has secured money for an entrepreneurship program that allows people to learn how to channel their passions into a business.

Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa recently announced that the subcommittee that funds the Small Business Administration has approved $250,000 for the MyEntre.Net program at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), according to IowaPolitics.com. The funding is included in the subcommittee’s fiscal year appropriations bill, which is expected to be approved by the Senate Appropriates Committee before going to the full Senate.

“MyEntre.Net is a creative program that allows similar businesses to learn from each other even when they are spread apart,” Harkin told the news source. “UNI has developed a program that is extremely useful for small businesses and with funding, will be able to expand on its success.”

The program recruits and engages entrepreneurs across the state and gives the various resources that they need to develop a successful business, according to the news source.

According to the Small Business Association, as of 2005 small businesses represent 99.7% of businesses in the U.S. and employ more than 55 million people.
