Purdue University is introducing a new initiative aimed at helping students add an advanced degree to their resume faster. The new trimester program being offered by the Indiana school will introduce an expanded summer program this year as the institution moves toward implementing a full-summer trimester as part of its new 10-year plan to reduce future tuition costs. Tim Sands, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Purdue, said the new third semester will help students complete a 4-year degree in as little as 3 years. "This initiative will make a Purdue education more affordable because a greater array of summer course and program offerings, combined with discounted summer tuition, will result in a faster time to completion for some students," Sands noted. The new program will also help more students take advantage of the school's study-abroad and internship opportunities. Over the next 10 years, Purdue said it also plans to increase its sources of revenue, expand its online degree offerings and ramp up research and commercialization. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, professionals with an advanced degree on their resume have the potential to earn $1,000 more per week than those with some or no college education. |
