Nevada residents are crossing their fingers, along with many other states who are eagerly awaiting a vote from the U.S. Senate that may restore thousands of jobs.

According to Public News Service, the federal education funding bill would provide Nevada with enough money to hire back more than 1,000 teachers. The House recently passed the bill, and it is currently pending action in the Senate.

“It would save or create an estimated 1,184 jobs here in Nevada,” Lynn Warne, president of the Nevada State Education Association, told the news source. “It would help keep those class sizes smaller, so we can address the educational needs of our youngest students, in grades, one, two and three.”

The amendment would award Nevada $82 million for jobs in public schools, according to the news source.

While that money can be used for grades K-12, Warne emphasizes that the money is most needed in the younger grades.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of employed teachers is expected to increase by 13% between 2008 and 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19891912-ADNFCR
