Professional educators know that in order to excel in today's academic community, they must add an advanced degree to their resume. Now, the University of Scranton is offering a scholarship for teachers heading back to school to earn their online masters degree in education. The college recently announced the availability of the awards through the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship Program. Applications are now being accepted for two awards totaling $8,494 for the Spring B 2012 session through University Alliance, a division of Bisk Education. Dr. W. Jeffrey Walsh, dean of the college of graduate and continuing education, said the scholarships are awarded to help talented teachers excel in their field by earning a master of science degree in education with a focus in curriculum, instruction or administration. "The University of Scranton is proud to support the higher academic and professional goals of outstanding educators," Welsh remarked. "We look forward to helping foster their continued success." In order to be eligible, applicants must be a first time University of Scranton online masters program student. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for teachers are expected to grow by 13% through the end of the decade. |
