A new website has debuted to help people interested in pursing a professional career in education navigate exactly what they need to add to their resume in order to qualify to teach in each state. The new State-by-State Guide to Teachers Certification from eLearners.com details all the initial teacher licensure requirements, as well as information on what is required to become a classroom teacher including level of degree needed, credit hour requirements and required standardized testing. Most states now have three main requirements for a preliminary or provisional teaching certificate including a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, a passing score on a state teaching exam and completion of an approved teachers training program (ATTP). Many states, however, have additional requirements which may include specific educational fulfillments and background checks. The site also includes a list of starting teacher's salaries for each state and information on how to become a substitute teacher. A recent study by WANTED Analytics found an increase in demand for teachers in the U.S., especially at the post-secondary level. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for teachers are expected to grow by 13% through the end of the decade. |
