Through an aptitude test, an individual may discover that they have the skill set to enter a career in education. Many people find teaching to be a fulfilling job, but it requires postsecondary education to enter the field. Recently, Jackson State University (JSU) announced that it will begin offering a bachelor of science degree in childcare and family education through a series of online courses. The JSU College of Education will give students with an associate's degree the opportunity to further their careers after completing these classes. "To be competitive in today's job market, individuals with degrees most certainly have an edge over individuals who do not," stated Ezell Brown, CEO of the Education Online Services Corporation, which partnered with JSU to launch the program. "Businesses want qualified people and for many jobs, that translates into having a bachelor's degree of some kind." Individuals who have a minimum of 45 credit hours in education college courses are eligible to enroll in the program. JSU plans to give students the tools and knowledge they need to be successful in the field of teaching. Teaching jobs in kindergarten, elementary, middle and secondary schools are projected to increase by 13% over the next 8 years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. |
