Those seeking to add a degree in criminal justice to their resume have many options when it comes to the law enforcement and security field. Now, Walden University has announced the launch of a new online master's degree program in emergency management.

The school said the new online program will focus on key skills related to implementing disaster prevention and response work with a concentration in criminal justice, homeland security, public management or terrorism and emergency management.

Dr. Mark Gordon, associate dean of Walden's School of Public Policy and Administration, said the program will prepare students to lead in both disaster prevention and response.

"In times of disaster, the public often sees only the response efforts of emergency management teams. However, that is just a small part of what these professionals do in the field," Gordon added. "There is also a core focus on risk analysis, mitigation planning and policy development."

The program's coursework will also help students seeking to add certificates from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Management Management Institute on their resume to work at the federal level.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for federal workers are expected to grow by more than 9% through 2018.
