A Pennsylvania man has reportedly found a new business opportunity for himself with help from his paralegal certificate. This week, the Lancaster (Penn.) New Era newspaper reported on Sean Van Den Dries, a local lumber truck driver who put his paralegal training to use after the economy started costing him income from his other job. Van Den Dries has reportedly started a company called Emergency Paralegal Services, which provides specialized legal services to those involved in court procedures. "People get in trouble all the time. There might be an uptick in crime during a recession," Van Den Dries told the newspaper. Far more paralegals tend to work in legal offices than they do in their own businesses, but one thing they all have in common is a growing demand for their services. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for paralegals is expected to jump 22 percent between now and 2016. The recession may also further contribute to a jump in demand for paralegals, with some legal entities now dealing with a growing caseload of fraud and financial crime-related cases. |
