Those who work in the criminal justice, legal or law enforcement fields may have one of the most important jobs in society. Individuals who are employed as lawyers, police officersor judges have to uphold the Constitution and ensure that society is protected against a multitude of infractions to the law. One group of law enforcement workers were recently recognized for the action they took to bring violators of the law to justice. The Baltimore Police Department apprehended three individuals who reportedly attacked an elderly African-American man on racial grounds. The group's actions were considered a hate crime and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) praised of their arrest. "This unprovoked, violent, and apparently racially motivated attack against a man who was peacefully fishing with his wife is intolerable," explained ADL's regional director Emily Friedman. She further communicated the ADL's satisfaction at the police department's quick, thorough job. Individuals who are inspired to join the police force should be encouraged by figures available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. For those who are qualified, employment of police officers is expected to grow by 11% until 2016. |
