The month of November is bringing on another election season and politicians are scrambling for ways to set them apart from other candidates and win the public’s vote. One potential candidate knows the direct route to many voters' hearts is job creation.

Alderman Robert Fioretti, from the Near South Side of Chicago, demanded that Mayor Richard Daly hire more than 1,000 police offers to solve the police shortage that plagues the city, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Fioretti, who is a potential candidate for the city’s mayoral race, explained to the news source that the smaller forces often leave officers outnumbered and residents feeling uneasy in their neighborhoods.

“We need a show of force. We've got to tell these gangs we mean business. It's not happening. Police don't have time. They can only respond to calls on a priority basis. We need to hire 1,000 police officers. The economic survival of this city depends on it,” Fioretti said .

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of police officers is expected to increase by 10% through 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19920402-ADNFCR
