Those looking to add a specialized degree in psychology to their resume in order to advance in the field may be interested to know that the University of Central Florida's (UCF) pre-doctoral internship program is now accredited. The school recently announced that the Counseling Center's pre-doctoral internship program in professional psychology won accreditation from the American Psychological Association after a rigorous application process. Karen Hofmann, associate director of the training program, said the accreditation sets a higher standard for the school. "This national accreditation also helps put UCF on the map as one of the top internships that's being sought after," Hofmann noted. "I think that this is something UCF as a whole will be proud of." The accreditation also will help the program earn more funding, which in turn will allow the school to accept more applicants. UCF is now accepting applications for its fall 2012-spring 2013 internship. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for psychologists are expected to grow by 12% through the end of the decade. A doctoral degree is usually required for those seeking to start their own independent practice. |
