Social workers help those in difficult circumstances

 Social work a rewarding career
According to Barb Wirebaugh, she has the best job in the world.
"I help people when they are in their greatest need for help in their lives," Wirebaugh said in an interview with the Bucyrus Telegraph Forum.

The former student teacher changed her major and career path after helping a 10-year old girl who was living an abusive home, according to the article.

"I got the proper authorities involved so she would be safe. Her grades began to improve," Wirebaugh recounted.

Wirebaugh changed majors and pursued a career in social work, becoming a mental health therapist in 2002. While pursuing her master's degree she was nominated for Social Worker of the Year for advocating ethical reforms in the child welfare system.

She has worked in foster care, child protective services, adoption and mediation before opening her own private practice after the birth of her child.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in social work is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2016, with a projected rate of 19 percent for child, family and school social workers specifically, producing an estimated 336,000 jobs.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19154150-ADNFCR
