Although school counselors often can make an impact on students' lives, they are often not recognized for all of the work that they do. However, many people do not get into careers in counseling for the recognition, rather, to make a difference in a person's life. Counseling is considered a rewarding profession for those who genuinely enjoy helping others find their way.

The first week in February has been designated as National School Counseling Week, a new celebration that was implemented by the House of Representatives, according to the American School Counselor Association.

The reasoning behind this endeavor is to recognize counselors who have made a significant impact on their students, and how they are rarely given the praise they deserve, according to academic insiders.

"I hope that National School Counseling Week has a greater impact than just the recognition of outstanding counselors," Rep. Linda Sánchez of Lakewood, California, said during a floor speech, according to the Whittier Daily News.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in school counseling will increase by 14% by 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19596468-ADNFCR
