Into each life some rain must fall. A career in counseling is a career in helping people with their problems. Counselors can range from vocational counselors, who help people find the jobs and careers that are right for them, to mental health counselors who help with the trauma and stress life occasionally imposes on everyone.

Two recent fires in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, destroyed or damaged the apartments of 124 people. Both the victims of the fire and the Red Cross volunteers who helped them will receive help dealing with the aftermath from 15 mental-health providers such as social workers and mental-health counselors, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

The counselors came in response to a request for aid from the executive director of the Mental Health Association of Forsyth County.

"We got so many responses," said Buffy Caudell, a Red Cross spokeswoman, to the Journal. "We now have gotten all the help we needed."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that jobs for mental health counselors will grow by 30% between 2006 and 2016, while the rate of growth for all forms of counseling will be a still-impressive 21%.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19281708-ADNFCR
