People with a career in psychology are respected for their capacity to make a difference in someone's life, as well as for their insight into the human psyche. Famous psychologists ranging from Freud to Manslow have made a name for themselves by talking about the inner workings of a human's brain, including getting down to the unconscious. Because they're known for their understanding of the human mind, many people turn to psychologists to provide insight as to why people think they way they do. When asked about how humans come to certain conclusions, psychologists believe it's all about propaganda. Because psychologists are often sought to provide insight, USA Today asked their thoughts on the success of propaganda and why political leaders choose to use it. "The (think for themselves) justification is ironic considering that the purpose of advertising political or otherwise is to persuade the viewer about a particular point-of-view," psychologist Brian Nosek told the news provider. "That is, the goal of the political ad is deliberately 'not' to have citizens thinking for themselves." In addition to providing insight into the inner workings of the brain, a career in psychology can also be a very lucrative profession. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, psychologists can earn up to $82,000 a year. |
