As technology advances, people seem to be moving away from laptop computers and embracing more portable devices such as smartphones. While Apple's iPhone and Morotora's Droid devices have remained popular with the public, there may be something else on the horizon based on the recent moves by one technology company giant. Intel, known for developing computer chips in the past, announced their acquisition of Infineon Technologies AG for approximately $1.4 billion. The company, located in Germany, manufactures chips that are used in mobile phones, including the celebrated iPhone. Some experts have pointed this move as an indication that Intel is taking a step toward making a splash in the smartphone industry. Despite Intel's motivations, it does suggest that a career in the information technology industry. A recent story in the Washington Post pointed to the popularity of this industry, especially in the computer software and computer security segments. "Companies need to stay in front of the hackers and protect their data, so this will most likely continue to be a [job] growth area," Edward Wilde, director of talent and learning for Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies, said to the news provider. |
