The internet age continues to promise more and faster connectivity. The silicon and broadband infrastructure that connects us virtually has become every bit, if not more, important than the roads and highways infrastructure that connect us physically.

The federal chief information officer Vivek Kundra announced a new website designed to track government information technology spending, which is estimated to be around $70 billion.

The IT site, a section of USAspending.gov, was unveiled June 30 at the Personal Democracy Forum conference on technology and politics.

"Everyone knows there have been spectacular failures when it comes to technology investments," Kundra said, according to the Washington Post. "Now for the first time the entire country can see how we're spending money and give us input."

The site is part of an ongoing project by the Office of Management and Budget to make various forms of data more accessible to the public by using online technologies.

Employment in careers in computer and information systems management is expected to rise 16% from 2006-2016 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, faster than the national average for all careers.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19244211-ADNFCR
