Who could have predicted that 140 characters in a message could one day be so important? Twitter, the micro-social networking site, has emerged as a marketable skill for job seekers to place on their resume because some companies are starting to see the value of social media. Bob Van Rossum, president of recruitment company MarketPro, told the Atlantic Journal-Constitution that certain industries see those with social media skills as excellent candidates for open job positions. "If you're in advertising, marketing or communications, the more information you can put out to people where they want to see it, the better," Rossum said. "If you're in one of those fields, it's now required for you to be pretty savvy in the social media area, even if it's not your primary focus." While it's always important to keep current with new technologies, social media may be crucial for job seekers to embrace. Many businesses and companies are utilizing sites like Facebook and the aforementioned Twitter, and workers who can address those needs with internet skills may be able to stand out in a sea of applicants. |
