Skilled Trades Jobs Available for Experienced Workers
Last week, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the national unemployment rate rose from 9.8 percent in September to 10.2 percent in October - the highest percentage since 1983. Even though layoffs persisted in the third quarter of 2009, during which employers dissolved about 277,924 jobs, some experts are predicting job increases in certain skilled fields.

Workers with a specific skill set that has been sharpened through work experience are in high demand, the New York Times reports.

Larry Jacobson, the executive director of the National Society of Professional Engineers told the news provider, what's missing from the job market "are enough licensed professionals who have worked at least five years under experienced engineers before taking the licensing exams."

According to a sociologist at New York University, Richard Sennett, outsourcing can limit the amount of qualified skilled professionals by interrupting employment before a skill has fully been developed, and layoffs can challenge an employee's dedication to a single occupation.

Employment in most trade jobs will grow about 7 to 10 percent in the decade leading up to 2016, according to BLS.
