The economic crisis has put millions of Americans out of jobs over the past year and a half, resulting in an overwhelming number of individuals disappointed with the lack of job creation measures. Although President Obama created a $787 billion stimulus package that was to aid some industries, allowing them to hire more prospective employees, there are still millions of people who are unemployed. As a sign of bipartisanship, both Republicans and Democrats in the Senate came together to vote on a new $15 billion job creation bill that will offer incentives such as a social security tax credit for the rest of the year for businesses that hire individuals who have been out of work for at least 60 days, according to the Washington Post. Companies will also receive a $1,000 tax credit for every worker hired who stays on the job for at least 1 year. Government officials believe that this new bill will help create tens of thousands of jobs. Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate dropped to 9.7% in January, from 10% in both November and December, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. |
