Being able to assess and effectively promote skills are crucial for those looking to land a new job. Press Democrat said that there are many avenues to explore when looking for a new career, with the internet offering an ever-increasing "sea" of careers advice and job opportunities. With the number of online applications rising, it is crucial that graduates can identify and highlight all of their job skills in order to stand out from the crowd. Kathy Young, a manager with recruitment specialist Job Link said: "Whether you're searching for a job or wanting to change jobs, you need to identify your skills and be able to promote them. That's the bottom line." Researching a particular industry to find out what skills are most in demand can also be a good way forward, Ms Young said, as sometimes this shows employers where a candidate might "fit into a position" and effectively create an opening. Job hunters might also find that temp work provides a useful supplemental income while they are searching for a permanent role. Todd Witkin of independent placement firm Nelson Staffing said these jobs can also offer the chance to gain experience, learn news skills and increase networking contacts. |
