Educators: Foreign Language Skills Foster Careers in Business
Success in business is often guided by the enthusiasm and creativity which specialists devote to their craft. The ultimate goal of many in the business field is to prove they are capable of managing their company while staying ahead of the often unpredictable changes in the economy. While this type of management may require mastery of an industry specific language, some are finding that learning a new language may actually be elemental in pursuing careers in business.

Students, professors and deans at Michigan State University are discovering that as globalization spreads, a knowledge of world languages like Chinese and Arabic are proving useful in international business relations.

According to Karin Wurst, dean of the College of Arts and Letters, "In an age when the world is so much more accessible than in the past through the internet and travel, the study of languages and cultures enables us to follow and participate more knowledgeable and effectively in the global exchange of ideas."

Economics professor Mordechai Kreinin tells his students that the "BRIC" countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China - have fast-growing economies for developing countries, and business endeavors may require knowledge of Chinese or Portuguese.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the employment of financial analysts to grow by 37 percent until 2016.
