The ultimate goal of many in the business field is to prove they are capable of managing their company while staying ahead of the often unpredictable changes in the economy. While success in this area is supported by enthusiasm, it grows out of the ideas which originally lay the groundwork for the business. Successful business leaders are recognized for making enterprises out of their interest and abilities. This morning, Wells Fargo and the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) selected two African American business leaders to receive the annual NBMBAA/Wells Fargo Entrepreneur Excellence Award for the their companies' growth, innovation and service to their respective communities. This year, Willie Davis Jr., owner of Just Bucket Excavating and Kia Steave-Dickerson, owner of K.I.A. Design & Construction Enterprises received the $5,000 award. Brenda Ross-Dulan, spokesperson for Wells Fargo's African American Business Services program called the winners "role models" who "reflect the diversity of the contributions and success within the nation's African American business community." According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 7% to 8% of the households in the U.S. are headed by entrepreneurs, who collectively own almost one-third of all wealth in the country.  |
