While the financial industry may have taken a serious hit with the economic crisis, it still has not deterred individuals from looking for careers in finance. Some analysts believe this could be due to the higher salary that usually accompanies these esteemed positions. Many people who attend college with a focus in business tend to seek out the jobs that will supply the highest income in hopes of getting rid of any debt they might have.

Even though the industry still has a long way to go, there may be jobs out there for those who are qualified, according to the Wall Street Journal. Those with business backgrounds may fair the best in small firms, which often look for people with education or experience in the field as it may require less training.

"A strong background in accounting plus financial [knowledge in] evaluation is the key—and being well-rounded will help a lot," David Smith, an associate professor at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, told the news provider.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, individuals in the financial industry can earn about $72,030 a year on average.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19536409-ADNFCR
