As the economy is slowly getting back on it's feet, the job market is slowly picking up. While some industries are being changed forever, others are trying to quickly fill positions. According to the New Yorker Magazine, accounting is one of the few occupation that is growing and currently hiring. Forty-six percent of new graduates have landed accounting jobs, according to the magazine. While it is considered one of the "safest" degrees, that title also can expand to those who are already in the accounting field. Since graduates are getting new jobs, the chance that others who are looking for jobs in the accounting world will find those opportunities. The Department of Labor released it's biannual "Occupational Outlook Handbook 2010-2011" recently and said that accountants will experience faster than average employment growth, due to the increase in business, changing financial laws and regulation and greater scrutiny of company finances. According to the report, 279,400 new accountants will be added to the workforce between 2008 and 2018. The median wage for an accountant was $59,430 in 2008. |
