While the financial industry struggles to regain some economic footing, business professionals may want to consider adding a degree in the emerging field of forensic accounting to their resume. Now, Globe University and the Minnesota School of Business (MSB) have announced the launch of the area's first forensic accounting bachelor's degree program. Graduates will be able to get involved in cases that include securities fraud, bankruptcies, negligence and economic damages. Melanie Torborg, network dean of accounting at Globe University, said the field offers higher than average job growth with top wages at banks, accounting firms, legal institutions, corporations and government agencies. "This is an engrossing career with change and challenges around nearly every corner,” said Torborg. In addition to accounting classes, students in the program will also be required to complete courses in computer forensics, information security and criminal justice. The degree is being offered at select campuses in Minnesota and Wisconsin with students having the option of taking the certified fraud examiner test following graduation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for accountants and auditors are expected to grow by 22% through the end of the decade. |
