Graduates looking to enter the dynamic world of fashion must be prepared to start on the ground floor and take every job - paid or unpaid - seriously in order to build a career in the field.

Lauren 'Daisy' Lewellyn, a stylist dubbed the Queen of Effortless Chic, told Fashion Time that after graduating with a major in accessories and design, she began her own career as an intern as Honey magazine.

This experience was crucial in helping her to learn the ropes of the style industry while also providing an invaluable opportunity to network - another important factor in building a fashion career.

Indeed, building a relationship with the magazine's fashion director landed Ms Lewellyn her first paid job when she was asked to join In Style magazine.

Ms Lewellyn, who has gone on to have a career as a stylist working with Beyonce Knowles and Janet Jackson while also appearing on shows such as The View, The Today Show and Good Morning America, said the best thing about fashion is its fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

"I never have the same day, each day is really a new adventure," she commented.

According to the Department of Labor, the majority of fashion industry jobs are based in California and New York.
